In literacy today we looked at our protagonist, Arthur, who we have been told is an "unlikely hero". We looked at an illustration of him from the book and began to think of what our first impressions were.
Then we moved on to read a few pages where we discovered more about his personality.

Bar Chart Exploration
Today in maths we used a pictogram to explore different ways that it could be transferred into a bar chart. We use Lego to begin to build the bar chart and then challenged ourselves by changing the key of the pictogram and adapting our bar charts to suit.
Attendance
The attendance percentage for 3ST last week was:
97.2%
This is just above the 96% target. Let's try and beat it by being in every day this week!

Learning Log
Wow! What an amazing first week back it has been! The launch day was a huge success and all the children loved learning about some different countries from around the world.
In literacy this week we have started work on our new text 'Arthur and the Golden Rope' which has been very exciting. We discussed what we thought the story might be about from clues in the endpapers as well as writing a letter to Professor Brownstone asking to be allowed to visit his vault of artefacts. Fingers crossed we get a reply! We also looked at how important books are as we learned that one of Professor Brownstone's most prized possessions were his books.
The maths focus for this week has been on pictograms. We recalled how to read a pictorgram accurately, remembering to check the key carefully. We used the information found in each pictogram to answer questions regarding the information. Finally, we made our own pictograms!
We have really enjoyed taking our topic focus from the text we are reading and have begun learning about Iceland, which is where we think the story is set. As well as this we started to design the artefacts from Professor Brownstone's vault.
It's been a jam packed week and we are looking forward to seeing where our learning journey takes us next week!
Launch Day - Out of This World
On Wednesday, we had our amazing launch day! We travelled to different countries in each year group and experienced a different activity based around that country. There was painting, quizzes, mask making, mosaic, cheerleading and more!
We each had a passport to travel through the countries!
Here are some of the photos of the activities:

Iceland Exploration
Following from our discussions in literacy this morning we decided to explore Iceland as we saw it on the map and did not know a lot about the key facts.
Starting Our Story Journey
This morning we started our journey with our new reading book by looking at the end papers of the book.
We discussed what we could see and what we thought this might mean. Then we came up with a prediction of what we think might happen in the story and what it might be about.
Here are some photos of us working together:

Aspire Gymnastics Trip
Yesterday, we all enjoyed a morning at Aspire Gymnastics to put our gymnastics work in PE to the test! It was amazing to see all the apparatus and be able to use it properly.
