Hot Seats, Get Your Hot Seats!

On Tuesday in literacy we used a technique called hot seating to learn more about a character in our class text, 'The Mousehole Cat'.

We looked at the character Tom and what we knew about him such as that he was a fisherman, had a cat called Mowzer and he lived alone as sadly his wife had passed away and his children had grown up. We then worked in groups to come up with some questions that we would ask Tom to find out more about him. Finally, we each had a 'Tom' on our group and then we asked them our questions.

Illustrators

Today in literacy we focused on a section of text that was very descriptive about another rambling isle.

"It was tall and rocky, and on its summit dark trees clustered. Among the trees stood a ruined temple, crumbly and overgrown. Around the temple towered huge stone heads with empty eyes and open mouths. They looked a bit like the famous statues on Easter Island. (In fact they were where the Easter islanders had got the ideas from, for this Rambling Isle had passed close to Easter Island, long ago.)"

After listening to the paragraph carefully a couple of times we began to draw the image that the description put in our heads. We then spent some time sharing what we had drawn with our partner, annotating sections.

Books Makers

This week in literacy we have been turning our stories into graphic novels.

We made a plan for each page and the illustration that we wanted to include on that page. Here is a sneak preview of what we have been creating.

Question Time

Today we finished the story Arthur and the Golden Rope. We were amazed by the ending and loved discussing our favourite parts of the book along with the techniques we liked that the author Joe Todd-Stanton used.

However, we still had questions that needed answers. We decided to write a letter to Mr Todd-Stanton and see if we could get a reply from him on Twitter.

Arthur's Quest!

We have been making some of the possessions we think Arthur might need to succeed in his quest.
We made them last week out of salt dough and then yesterday we got to paint them!

Then why not visit Iceland!

On Monday this week we wrote scripts in literacy to create an advert so that people would visit Iceland on holiday. We researched the different things that you could do on holiday there and then began to create our amazing scripts encouraging people to go on holiday there.

All About Arthur

In literacy today we looked at our protagonist, Arthur, who we have been told is an "unlikely hero". We looked at an illustration of him from the book and began to think of what our first impressions were.

Then we moved on to read a few pages where we discovered more about his personality.

Starting Our Story Journey

This morning we started our journey with our new reading book by looking at the end papers of the book.

We discussed what we could see and what we thought this might mean. Then we came up with a prediction of what we think might happen in the story and what it might be about.
